Product Designer

Having grown up watching her mother draw, weave and embroider, Célia Esteves took an interest in traditional arts and techniques. From a very early age, she has always been curious about how things are made and has always enjoyed bringing them to life. Born in Viana do Castelo, a city reputed for its trades and artisans, the creative designer moved to Porto to study Design and has never stopped since. With a degree in Graphic Design, she specialised in Drawing and Printing Techniques at the faculty of Fine Arts, where she worked for five years as a Printing Technician. This was where she gathered both the experience and contacts necessary for her professional growth.

Before, she would help artists finding a solution to print their work, now she offers them the possibility of experimenting a new technique. The Gur project, a contemporary approach to the traditional Portuguese rag rugs, allows her to work in permanent collaboration with other creative people. Although the Gur rugs are produced in a traditional workshop in Viana do Castelo, Célia Esteves spends most of her time in Porto, either working for Gur or developing other artistic projects in her screen printing workshop. For her, Porto is a city with a very strong creative community, family like, but very assertive in its relationship with size.
